To be honest, I need to begin by sharing with you that a “liquid facelift” is not really a facelift at all! Unfortunately, that’s how it has been marketed on TV shows like “The Real Housewives of New York” and within our mainstream media. However, it is a great tool for facial rejuvenation
without undergoing an operation. Although you might think this would make the liquid facelift less expensive, costs depend on how much liquid is being used.
This procedure is termed the “liquid” facelift because it is performed by injecting liquid filler beneath the skin. This is like going into a physician’s office for a Botox treatment, except you aren’t just targeting minor lines or wrinkles in one area of the face. Instead, you’re targeting larger areas where you are experiencing sagging skin. The filler is injected in the appropriate areas of the skin and will cause a variety of effects:
- Plumper skin
- Tighter skin, and
- Hollows disappear
Anywhere you feel your skin has fallen, or sunken in, could be a potential target point for a liquid facelift. Since I don’t have to actually cut into your face, and pull all the skin back as you would with a surgical facelift, I can target different areas of the face – or – consider other alterations. The filler used for the liquid facelift actually causes an increase in collagen production that leads to tighter, younger-looking skin in the long term.
Although getting a liquid facelift is rather easy, the procedure must be customized to your face. For your first treatment, you should block off the day to see how your face responds to the injections. Once that determination has been reached, you should be able to return to daily life in a timely manner following subsequent treatments.
In general, there are two types of injectables that are used for the liquid facelift: Neurotoxin and Fillers. More and more people are having injectable fills to enhance lips, cheeks, and nasal folds. These exciting new fillers offer a quick and almost painless way of achieving a more youthful appearance; however, they require periodic sessions in order to maintain a wrinkle-free appearance.
The second group of injections used is either Botox or Dysport. Through trial and error, it was discovered that Botox and Dysport injections improved the look of fine lines and superficial wrinkles caused from every-day facial exercises like smiling, frowning, or squinting. This discovery opened the door to a marvelous new method for millions by erasing lines and wrinkles. Patients see the positive effects of Botox and Dysport in a few days. Maximum results for Botox are about three months and do not eliminate your ability to show facial expressions.
The liquid facelift is just one of the newest developments in the cosmetic surgery industry. Although (again in truth) it’s really just the culmination of many treatments being used in a more aggressive fashion. Remember: it does not give the same result as having a real facelift, nor is it permanent like a traditional facelift. For most, the liquid version will last about a year.
