SEPTAL RECONSTRUCTION
Pre/Post Operative Instructions

DIET:
After surgery, have only liquids for the rest of the day. Advance
to regular diet on the next day.
General Instructions
- Take medicine as prescribed for pain. Do not take aspirin or
aspirin products for one week after surgery.
- Change moustache dressing as needed to protect clothing from
blood, but do not remove any packing if present.
- Do not sleep in a position that puts pressure on the nose. Sleep
on your back.
- Elevate the head of your bed for 2 weeks after surgery to reduce
swelling.
- Do not place anything in your nose. Do not blow your nose for
2 weeks. Do not remove any stitches on or on your nose.
Normal Problems
You may have difficulty breathing through your nose for a few weeks
after surgery.
Headache & pain around the eyes that can be alleviated with
medication.
Thin, bloody drainage, which lessons and stops within a few days.
Abnormal Problems
Fever of greater than 101 degrees that does not respond to fluids
& Tylenol.
Foul odor or pus coming from the nose.
IF EXCESSIVE BLEEDING SHOULD OCCUR, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM &
CALL THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY.
Cast
If there is a cast on your nose, do not remove it or get it wet.
