The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Whether an individual desires this procedure for cosmetic reasons or reconstructive purposes, Dr. Daube can create a personalized rhinoplasty surgery plan. He can increase the overall size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge, narrow or widen the span of the nostrils, or straighten a deviated septum to improve breathing. Rhinoplasty surgery can take between one to two hours as necessary, depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Dr. Daube will begin the procedure by separating the skin of the nose from the bone and cartilage. Then, he is able to sculpt the nose into the desired shape, and redrape the skin over the new framework. A splint will be placed over the nose to help to maintain its new shape. After surgery, patients can expect their face to be puffy; however, keeping the head elevated will help decrease swelling. Bruising and swelling will be apparent around the eyes within the first couple of days, which should diminish within a week after surgery. By this time, the patient should be able to return to work.

In some cases, cosmetic rhinoplasty may be performed with additional procedures, such as facelift surgery ("rhytidectomy"), eyelid surgery ("blepharoplasty"), and/or browlift surgery ("forehead lift"). Prospective patients can learn more about their options during an initial consultation.
